Wind storm one of the worst in years

Strong winds blasted across Southern Ontario Thursday, leaving a path of destruction. Roofs were blown off schools — trees fell on homes — objects flew into windows — and cars were crushed under heavy debris.

The wind storm that hit is one of the worst in our area in years, and in one case — it was deadly.
The storm also forced closures on the QEW including the Skyway Bridge in Burlington and the Garden City Skyway in St Catharines. The high winds even forced some border crossings to close.
We have team coverage, beginning with one of the hardest hit areas. Lauran Sabourin is in the Niagara region.
