43 year old Justin Trudeau will become Canada’s 23rd Prime Minister. The Liberals won a majority in the longest federal election campaign in recent history.

Justin Pierre James Trudeau was born in Ottawa on Christmas day to Margaret Trudeau and Canada’s former Prime Minister Pierre Elliot Trudeau who sparked “Trudeaumania” during his entry into the leadership race.

In 1994 Trudeau graduated from McGill University with a degree in literature. Four years later he received a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of British Columbia. Trudeau went on to teach both french and math in elementary and high school.

On September 28th 2000 his father died. A few days later Trudeau delivered a touching eulogy at his father’s funeral that quickly fueled rumours that he was destined for a career in politics.

On May 28 2005 he married one of his brother’s classmates, Sophie Gregoire. They have 3 kids together.

In October 2008 Trudeau secured his first election victory with more than 40% of the votes.

On February 25, 2009 Trudeau introduced a private member’s motion that called for a national voluntary service policy for young people and it received support across all party lines.

In November 2011 Liberal MP Trudeau gave quite the striptease at the ‘What a girl wants’ fundraiser for liver disease. Lunch with Trudeau at the Parliamentary Restaurant went for $1900.

In April 2012 Trudeau fought Conservative senator Patrick Brazeau during a charity boxing match for cancer research.

In 2013 he became the leader of the Liberal party winning on the first ballot with almost 80% of the vote.

That same year he sparked controversy when he admitted to smoking marijuana while serving as a member of Parliament. He later called for an overhaul of current marijuana laws.

October 19 2015 became another historic day for Trudeau when he was elected the second youngest Prime Minister in Canadian history.
