Whitehead takes the stand

A Hamilton councillor testifies why he sent a controversial e-mail.
Terry Whitehead says he was the subject of death threats in the days before sending it.
He says he’d received 37 threatening phone calls and e-mails after spearheading a move to bring revenue from slot machines at Flamboro Downs back into general city coffers.
The councillor adds he was still angry about those threats when he sent an early morning e-mail to Free Flamborough chair Roman Sarachman three years ago, calling him “a destructive, mean-spirited irrational liar.”
A judgment in Sarachman’s $700,000 defamation case against Whitehead is expected Monday.
