White powder found at Stoney Creek Canada Post leads to hazmat response

Loose white powder was found in a bin at the Stoney Creek Canada Post facility around 4:00 a.m. this morning. Hamilton Police responded to the scene and immediately requested the Hamilton Fire Department’s Hazmat team to investigate.
The team found that there was a box of around 80 packages of the white powder and one had broken open. After testing the powder they determined it was non-explosive and non-hazardous.
Police tell CHCH News that the HVAC was turned off between 4:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. during the investigation. Around 70 employees were working at the time and a group working closely to the bin had to clear out in that time.
Police say that the package was not meant to be a trick or hoax. It was an order of cleaning product that accidentally broke came from during it’s trip from Vancouver to Hamilton.
