WestJet to take over Swoop flights from Hamilton this winter

Swoop flights headed to sunny destinations from Hamilton will soon be taken over by WestJet as the parent company continues its integration of the low-cost carrier.
In a statement released Monday, WestJet says “Hamilton will be centered on our strategic focus of providing non-stop domestic connectivity to Western Canada and the sun destinations.”
The company emphasizes that the reduced schedule currently being experienced in Hamilton will only be temporary as they work to “responsibly execute” the integration of Swoop into its business model.

Flights from Hamilton’s John C. Munro airport to Cancun, Mexico are set to resume on November 25, with those to Punta Cana expected to resume the following day.
Popular routes to Orlando and Tampa Bay in Florida will be open on November 24. The airline says each of these sun-bound routes will have three weekly flights on WestJet aircrafts.
The airline will additionally be offering year-round flights between Hamilton and Calgary four times a week to enable further travel from its international hub .
This follows the recent acquisition of Sunwing airlines by WestJet, which is expected to provide eight non-stop routes from Hamilton to destinations in the United States, Mexico and the Caribbean throughout the winter.
