Two people now face murder charges after a man assaulted last month in Welland has died of his injuries.

The assault happened on the night of May 5 on King St., between Albert St. and State St.

Officers found a man in his 50s with critical injuries.

The victim was in hospital for a month before dying on June 4. He has been identified as 54-year-old Christopher McLaughlin.

Police upgraded charges laid 32-year-old Larry Miles and 40-year-old Eric Fidler, both of Welland, from aggravated assault to second-degree murder.
