Weekend-long chalk memorial for former Cardinal Newman student Ben Zwolak

A weekend-long chalk memorial will be held at Hamilton’s St. John Henry Newman Catholic Secondary School parking lot this weekend for former student Benjamin Zwolak.
Zwolak passed away on Monday September 21st. Ben’s uncle Matt Zwolak, a teacher at John Henry Newman, says it was due to a sudden arrhythmic death syndrome (SADS).
The memorial was started by former classmate Kevin Geenen to help bring together former students and the community to pay respect to Zwolak’s life. In an Instagram post Geenan said, “let’s stick together. Let’s mourn together. And let’s be there together in any way we can.” Geenan has also set up posters to sign your name. Chalk, pens, and sanitizer will be provided.
Zwolak, 21, was a graduate of the class of 2017. He was a multi-sport athlete who was described as having an impact both on and off the field.
The Hamilton Cardinals are deeply saddened to announce the sudden passing of Ben Zwolak, who played on our 2012 13U and 2013 14U teams. Ben was a five sport athlete who had a huge impact on and off the field. Our hearts are with the Zwolak family today in their time of grief. pic.twitter.com/P6pty2h3Vs
