Weapons charges laid after dispute leads to assault in Brantford

Two men are facing weapons charges after an argument led to an assault in Brantford on earlier this month.

Police were first called to a disturbance involving two men in the area of West Street and Fairview Drive on September 1.

It was reported to officers that a verbal dispute between the men who did not know each other escalated to become violent.

One of the men brandished a hammer while the other man had a tire iron during the assault.

The incident resulted in one of the men sustaining non-life threatening injuries and being taken to hospital for treatment.

Brantford police say that a 44-year-old man who is not a resident of Brantford has been charged with assault with a weapon and a 42-year-old resident of the city is facing charges of assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose.
