Waterfront clean-up under way

2 women who were protesting the disgusting conditions of the shores along Bayfront by spending several days on a raft got the city to listen and the clean-up is under way.
Kristin Villebrum and Wendy Bush might be tired and hungry, but they’re also relieved, “we had to push and push back, but we were able to close the path and get this cleaned up.”
Last week the duo came upon hundreds of personal hygiene products and syringes that had washed up along the shores from Bayfront Park to Princess Point. They fasted on a raft for 3 days until cleanup crews arrived in the morning.
The next mission? “Now we just need to find the source.”
The women were told that the trash was sewer run off from the century old pipes that travel about 600 kilometres throughout the city. Behind and underneath the parking lot at Bayfront Park is one of ten massive water tanks. And on really rainy days these can fill up and spew their contents into a nearby body of water. But the city has said that this tank hasn’t overflowed once this year.
However, 5 minutes east, the tank underneath Eastwood Park has overflowed 4 times this year. While there’s no guarantee the trash came from there, the city vows to make this image a distance memory.
“We’re looking to invest $190-million in capital programs and what we’re going to be doing is look out 30 to 40 years to see what are the things we need to put in place to make the city more resilient to severe wet weather or storms.”
Information Kristin and Wendy find encouraging.
