Waterdown boy struggles with severe injuries after being hurt on school bus

A Waterdown mother is furious after she says her son Jacob was hurt on a school bus and is still struggling with the injuries. 11-year-old Jacob Cook hasn’t been the same since riding a school bus on Oct. 11th.

Jacob’s mother Annie says the bus driver purposely went over bumps and sent her son flying out of his seat.

“I am in pain, and have been in pain mostly since the accident,” Jacob said.

Jacob is about five feet tall and weighs 75 pounds. He says he flew so high his head almost hit the top of the bus and he was in pain as soon as he came crashing down. “I flew up and I was in a lot of pain, like a lot,” Jacob said.

Annie took Jacob to the Doctor to get X-rays after the incident and she says the radiologist said Jacob had compression fractures.

Jacob says he’s still in excruciating pain every day and has developed a tic.

“As a mother, it’s heart-wrenching to see your child in pain, and hear him say ‘help me’ and not be able to do anything,” Annie said.

Jacob’s parents went to the police to press charges against the driver, who works for Attridge Transportation but no charges were laid. They’ve since retained a lawyer.

CHCH News reached out to the Hamilton Catholic School Board who said “this was a bus matter and not a school matter.” CHCH News called James Attridge, the Director of Operations at Attridge Transportation, he said “because there is legal action being taken, he is declining to comment at this time.”
