Water shortage hits Haldimand

Parts of Haldimand County are facing a critical water shortage because of algae blooms in Lake Erie.

The Environment Ministry has advised the county to take special water treatment precautions.

Those precautions have lowered the drinking water supply for Jarvis, Townsend and Hagersville.

Effective immediately, people there are no longer allowed to water lawns, flowers or gardens.

You can’t wash your car, or fill up your pool, hot tub, garden pond or fountain.

You also can’t operate sprinklers or splash pads for kids.

Haldimand County says the restrictions will be lifted once water reserves are replenished.
