Repairs are underway in Hamilton’s Kirkendall neighbourhood after a large water main break flooded streets on Sunday.

The break happened on Hyde Park Avenue in the afternoon, sending water rushing down the roadway.

Nearby Aberdeen Avenue would remain closed from Dundurn Street to Studholme Road for emergency repairs that are expected to wrap up Monday morning.

Photos and videos shared to social media showed water gushing through intersections, down roadways and into driveways.

The aftermath left gapping holes in the pavement, forcing the hours-long closure of Aberdeen Avenue.

Hamilton Ward 1 Councillor Maureen Wilson shared an update to social media that crews would be inspecting the area to ensure that no debris from the break made its way into sewage pipes.
