Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will give his regular COVID-19 update Friday.

The federal government is expected to provide more details on new quarantine rules for incoming travellers.

A mandatory three-day quarantine for air travellers arriving in Canada was announced last month. But details of how the program will work and when it will take effect have yet to be revealed.

The order requires those arriving in Canada to take a COVID-19 test upon arrival at their own cost and then pay for a 72-hour stay at a government-approved facility.

The measures come as new variants of COVID-19 are sweeping the globe and proving to be harder to contain.

Trudeau will speak to Canadians from Rideau Cottage. It is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m.
