Washington NFL franchise to drop “Redskins” name

The Washington NFL franchise is dropping the “Redskins” name and logo.
The decision was announced Monday, less than two weeks after owner Dan Snyder launched a “thorough review.”
Protests against the name have been around for decades and predate Snyder buying the team in 1999.
Until now, he had shown no willingness to consider a change.
Recently, sponsors including FedEx, Nike, Pepsi and Bank of America all lined up against the name.
The team said Snyder and coach Ron Rivera are working closely to develop a new name and design.
