Toronto homicide detectives confirmed late this afternoon they believe a 22 year old missing Mississauga man is that city’s latest murder victim. Police spent days scouring a Wainfleet property looking for evidence that would lead them to the body of Shawn Kapadia.

Kapadia was last seen at his Mississauga home July 5th at around 2pm.

Just hours later police believe he was murdered inside unit 118 at 7 Foundry Avenue in Toronto. 5 days after he was last seen Kapadia’s parents reported him missing.

Police had gone to the Foundry Avenue address to investigate an insecure premise. That’s when detectives turned their attention to this property on O’Reilly’s Road in Wainfleet where two young men had moved in in June.

Neighbours say when the two moved in about six weeks ago they made them suspicious. They were covered in tattoos, not very friendly, and one of the men asked a neighbour to borrow a wheelbarrow to mix eight bags if cement.

Police found Kapadia’s car at the back of the O’ Reillys Road house and towed it away

Police say they were told on July 11th there was a backhoe behind the house. On July 12th the backhoe was gone. And then a backhoe with a large chunk of concrete was seen on July 12 on Broadway Avenue in Welland.

Police are asking if anyone saw that backhoe to give them a call.

“It is likely this backhoe was borrowed or taken without permission. If you left your John Deere out, or have noticed it missing, I need you to contact me. I’m asking land owners in the in area of Wainfleet, Welland and Niagara Falls to check their properties. I need you to look for recently disturbed soil and or fresh pieces of concrete placed on your property.” stated Detective Dave Dickinson from the Toronto Homicide in a presser today.
