A local initiative that provides free formal attire to students is looking for volunteers this Saturday.

Prom Project Hamilton is a “pop-up shop” style event that features clothing, shoes, accessories and toiletries for proms, graduations, banquets and other special events.

Organizers are seeking people to volunteer as personal shoppers, change room attendants, inventory coordinators and seamstresses or tailors.

Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older and not currently registered as an elementary or secondary student.

Since its inception in 2015, Prom Project has supported over 2,700 students and has provided more than $200,000 in products.

The event is happening at Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School in Hamilton from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 7.

Organizers said students can have their formal wear altered onsite. Make-up and hair services will not be offered at this year’s event.

Students must register for an appointment time and provide the name of their guest, if applicable. There is a limit of one guest per student.

Registration will be on a first come, first serve basis. The deadline to register for an appointment is May 6 at 12 p.m.
