Volkswagen scandal escalating

The emissions scandal for Volkswagen is escalating, after becoming the world’s biggest car seller this year. Late last week the automaker revealed that its “green diesel” wasn’t really green at all. The cars were instead equipped with software that fooled emissions testers. Now, Volkswagen owners and dealers are trying to figure out what this means for them.

Jerry Foster has been selling used VWs for decades. “The original diesels were very stinky and noisy and slow. It’s not true today. They’re quiet, fast, power and torque, and until this fiasco, I thought they were extremely clean.”

11 million Volkswagens around the world have software that makes them seem clean when they are tested, but on the road they can burn 40% more nitrous oxides than allowed. “They went to great lengths to deceive people.”
