Visitation held for Thorold brothers

Hundreds of people turned out in Thorold Monday afternoon to pay their respects to the family of Casey and Chris Ugulini. The brothers died in a tragic snowmobile accident on the Welland Canal trail on Boxing Day when they slammed into a tree that police think fell across the trail during the ice storm.
Casey Ugulini and his brother Chris were almost inseparable. Kyle Larmet was a family friend: “The two were just remarkable people. They would bend over backwards for anybody. Anything you needed, they were there. Just awesome, awesome people.”
Just before six Boxing Day evening, Casey, Chris and Chris’ girlfriend Lindsay Lance were riding on the brothers snowmobiles along the Welland Canal trail in Thorold when they hit a recently fallen tree lying across the path near. Casey and Chris were killed instantly. Passenger Lindsay was airlifted to hospital in serious condition.
Casey’s friend Alex Cosby says the news left him in shock: “He was very careful on it. He never did anything crazy. He just had a lot of fun.”
Police say they weren’t driving dangerously. and all three were wearing helmets.
Alex Cosby says the brothers loved snowmobiling. Casey would be out on the trails six hours a day when the conditions were good: “He would go day and night if he could. He loved it. It was his life.”
Twenty-eight year old Casey leaves his wife Carolyn and young daughter Kylee: “They seemed pretty happy when they found out they were having a baby this year.”
A funeral mass for Casey and Chris will be held tomorrow morning at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church in Thorold. A tragic, tragic story. Two brothers, the victims of a ice storm.
