Visitation for co-op student

The investigation is continuing into the tragic death of West Lincoln teen Adam Keunen. Keunen was struck by a front end loader at an auto recycling yard on Friday. Hundreds of people gathered in Smithville this afternoon to pay respects to Adam’s grieving family at his visitation.

Adam Keunen was passionate about hockey. His team was the Maple Leafs. Adam loved farming, especially with his family.

Steven Killins: ‘He’s the hardest worker anybody will ever meet. That’s all I have to say.”

Steven Killins and Adam were best friends for 16 years. Steven was being consoled outside Merritt Funeral Home in Smithville this afternoon: “Just love him. I love him.”

Adam was in his final year at Beamsville Secondary. When he graduated in the spring, he wanted to go school to become a welder.

Nathan Wallace, friend: “He was always walking around the hall. Everybody knew him. He was very well loved.”

Adam was killed Friday morning at Plazek’s Auto Recycling in West Lincoln. He was hit by front end loader. Friends say Adam was looking forward to his co-op placement there.

Killens: “He was loving it. He was loving working there.”

When the news came on Friday that Adam had been killed, his friends were in shock.

“A lot of disbelief at first. And it was really hard. Shock. I didn’t know what to think. It was hard to believe.”

Visitation for Adam continues this evening. A funeral service will be held Wednesday morning at Smithville United Church. The family would like any donation in Adam’s to go to Canadian Tire’s Jump Start Program.
