Vigils mark Montreal massacre anniversary

Tonight marks 23 years since a gunman opened fire at Montreal’s L’ecole Polytechnique, killing 14 women.

Vigils are being held across the country to commemorate victims of violence, including at Hamilton’s McMaster University where students and community members came together to honour women who have been murdered and for those who have experienced violence.

Others gathered at Women’s College Hospital in Toronto, where the names of the 14 murdered women in the Montreal massacre were read aloud, and a rose for each placed in a vase as a gesture of remembrance. A 15th rose was also placed to remember murdered women and children in Ontario this past year.
