Veterans death benefits

Human rights complaints have been filed by families of at least four un-married soldiers killed in Afghanistan.

They say Veterans Affairs discriminates in favour of married troops in the payment of a $250,000 death benefit.

The cost of paying the benefit to all soldiers was looked at in 2007 and it was found that paying single soldiers would cost an extra $3 million a year.
