Two veteran athletes have been named Team Canada flag-bearers for the Tokyo Olympics.

Miranda Ayim and Nathan Hirayama will carry the country’s flag at the opening ceremony on July 23.

Ayim is set to make her third straight Olympic appearance in women’s basketball and Hirayama will be making his Olympic debut as co-captain of the men’s rugby team.

The announcement was made by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Team Canada’s social media accounts.

Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir were the first duo to share the honour of carrying the maple leaf at an Olympic Opening Ceremony at PyeongChang 2018.

However, this will be the first time that two athletes from different sports will lead Team Canada together.
