It may have taken 2 years, but Peter Comar vowed a Canadian flag would be flying outside his retirement home in Welland. Today the 91-year-old WWII veteran accomplished yet another mission.

Comar, his family, friends, and community leaders gathered this afternoon to celebrate the raising of the Canadian flag outside Birchwood Place seniors home in Welland.

Comar has been working toward this day since he and his wife Marie moved into the building. He was so disappointed there was no flag pole in the courtyard, “I talked to the right person, the individual came back to me and said I can’t find anybody who could supply it.”

Peter Comar did all the leg work in an effort to find a flag pole. He even called up City Hall to ask where they get their flag poles.

The Canadian flag is special to this decorated serviceman. At 18 he volunteered to serve in the Canadian army. He was a member of the fourth Princess Louise Dragoon guard.
