Vampire Academy

Vampire Academy is the latest teen vampire book series to be adapted for the big screen. The movie stars Zoey Deutch and Lucy Fry as best friends Rose and Lissa. Rose is a Dhampir guardian-in-training who has sworn to protect Lissa, a vampire Princess, at all costs. The two attempt to run away from St. Vladamir’s Academy where they feel their lives are in danger, but are captured and brought back to the school. Rose must fight to protect Lissa from threats inside the academy as well as the evil Strigoi that are hunting her down.

Director Mark Waters is in familiar territory with this teenage material; he previously directed the teen hits Freaky Friday and Mean Girls. His brother Daniel wrote the screenplay, which got a seal of approval from the series’ author Richelle Mead. “Seeing the book come to life in a movie is like taking what I visualized in my head and making it even bigger and better,” Mead says of the adaptation. That will be welcome news for fans of her series.
