It’s a Canadian holiday generally celebrated on the third Monday of May. A day off work to commemorate the birth date of Queen Victoria, who ruled the United Kingdom for 64 years, until her death in 1901.

Canada is the only country in the Commonwealth to have a federal holiday dedicated to Queen Victoria’s birthday, it’s not even observed in the U.K.

But for most, the weekend has come to represent the unofficial kick off to summer.
