Universal Handling Equipment reportedly declares bankruptcy

A garbage truck manufacturer operating in Hamilton for decades has reportedly declared bankruptcy.

Universal Handling Equipment, located on Pier 15 employs 76 unionized workers.

The company is said to have filed earlier this month. There are reports their liabilities total over $6.6 million dollars.

There is expected to be a court hearing tuesday for the bankruptcy application.

The plant had a series of layoffs earlier this fall. Many of the workers have been with the company 30 or 40 years.
