A statement from Downing Street says Johnson will still be in charge of the government’s handling of the crisis, despite the diagnosis.
There are more than 11,000 confirmed cases of the virus, also known as coronavirus, in the UK, and 578 people have died.
The government said that if Johnson is unable to work, Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab will replace him.
