U.S. death toll from COVID-19 tops 200,000

The COVID-19 death toll in the U.S. has topped 200,000.
The bleak milestone was reported by Johns Hopkins University, based on figures from state
health authorities.
The real number of dead is thought be much higher, in part because many COVID-19 deaths, especially early on, were probably ascribed to other causes.
For five months, America has led the world in numbers of confirmed infections and deaths.
The U.S. has less than 5 per cent of the globe’s population but more than 20 per cent of the reported deaths.
Five countries – Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Spain and Brazil – rank higher in COVID-19 deaths per capita.
