It was a violent night on the streets of Hamilton after two teenagers were shot on the mountain.

Paramedics say two 17-year-old boys were each shot four times at around 2 a.m. on Sunday.

Police say it happened in the area of Upper Ottawa Street and Limeridge Road East but they cannot confirm where exactly the teens were shot.

They also say the boys were together and were shot at the same location before they both went their separate ways.

One ended up at a house on Queen Victoria Drive. The other at Lawnview Drive, just 1.9 kilometers, or a 24 minute walk, away from each other.

Two nearby residents said they saw the commotion at Lawnview Drive last night.

“We just saw the police and the fire department truck. But you didn’t know what happened,” one neighbour explained.

“I had heard some kids outside around 8 to 10 and then they dispersed,” said another.

Most were surprised to hear the news.

“Very surprised,” said a different neighbour. “Over the years we’ve had little incidents, but nothing like that.”

“It’s tragic that there’s so much hate and violence towards other people,” another neighbour lamented.

Despite declining an on-camera interview, Hamilton Police said no one has been arrested in connection with this incident but that it’s not believed that the boys shot each other.

Hamilton Police added they believe this was an isolated attack and that there is no concern for public safety.

The teens suffered serious injures but are expected to survive.
