Two people killed in plane crash at Brantford airport

Ontario Provincial Police says two people have died following a plane crash in Brantford overnight.

The 1975 piper arrow went down just before 1:30 am Tuesday at the Brantford Municipal airport, killing 76 year old Ronald Chamberlain and his 81 year old wife Mildred.

The Brantford airport is staffed from 8 am to 5 pm so the crash wasn’t discovered until the manager arrived more than 6 hours later. There was no fire, or explosion after the plane went down.

OPP says the Transport Safety Board of Canada has taken over the investigation.

“Some of the things we’ll look at are the weather, what kind of flying they were doing, instrument flying or visual approach. Look at the airport to see if it was capable of maintaining flight.” Ken Webster, TSB.

The small rural airport has three runways, two were shut down for the investigation. On average, 100 flights come and go from there daily.
