Two Hamilton Police officers seriously injured during NYE RIDE stop

Two Hamilton police officers have been seriously injured during a New Year’s Eve RIDE stop in Hamilton last night.
Police say the officers were struck when a waiting 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe suddenly pulled out and drove through the RIDE program in the southbound lanes of the Claremont Access.
Police tell us the same driver is believed to have been involved in an earlier incident in the area of Fennell and Hoover.
Police say they got a call about a driver who was asleep behind the wheel with a bong on her lap. Police pinned in the vehicle, but say the driver woke up when an officer reached in to turn the vehicle off, and then drove into the cruiser.
Police say the driver fled on foot after the incident. Officers found the vehicle shortly afterward.
They are asking residents in the area of Inverness Avenue and Belair Drive to check their security cameras for any suspicious people around 11pm, and contact police with any information.
