Two country river search turns up dry

Reports of an overturned kayak caused a scare on the upper Niagara River this morning.

The U.S. Coast Guard alerted Canadian officials, after a kayak was spotted near Navy Island. Niagara Falls fire department was in the water with their Zodiac within minutes of the call, while an Erie County sheriff’s helicopter hovered overhead. They searched the river from Navy Island to north of Grand Island and found nothing.

The search was called off just before noon.
