Two children dead, dad in hospital after Hamilton ATV crash

Police are investigating after an ATV crash in rural Hamilton that killed two children and sent their father to hospital Saturday afternoon.
Officers say a 35-year-old Hamilton man was driving his side-by-side ATV with his 8-year-old daughter and 6-year-old son in a field west of Miles Rd. shortly after 4 p.m. when the vehicle went into a 10-metre-deep pond.
Police say the man was able to get out of the water and call for help.
A team of police officers, firefighters and paramedics recovered the children and brought them to hospital where they later died.
In a tweet, Hamilton Police Superintendent Treena MacSween said the service is “heartbroken over this tragic incident.”

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating and investigators have ruled out alcohol as a contributing factor.
