Two Canadians are among the dead after a suicide bomber attacked a crowded restaurant in Afghanistan.

The restaurant was packed last night when a Taliban suicide bomber detonated explosives at the entrance.

The two Canadians have been identified as Martin Glazer from Gattineau, Quebec and Peter McSheffery from Ottawa. Both were auditors working for an accounting firm out of Gattineau.

“Auditors were not on the front so we don’t usually go where it is very dangerous, but in a case like this the intent was directly in town. It was not in the danger area but unfortunately we were there at a bad time i guess.” says Pierre Samson, partner at Samon & Associates.

In total thirteen foreign citizens were killed, also the IMF’s top representative in the country and four UN staff.

The restaurant is situated in a district that’s home to several embassies and popular with diplomats and aid workers.

In a statement Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs John Baird said, “Canada condemns in the strongest possible terms the targeted, cowardly terrorist attack on a restaurant in Kabul. Acts of brutal terror cannot be allowed to go unpunished. This attack only enhances our resolve to combat terrorism in all it’s forms.”
