Two Brantford residents charged in animal welfare investigation

Two Brantford residents have been charged in an animal welfare investigation.
Officers visited a home on D’Aubigny Rd. on Wednesday, after receiving a report of an animal in distress.
When they arrived on the property police say officers saw a dog in distress inside. They say the animal was in need of immediate assistance, which officers provided.
Police found 23 dogs, three cats and a deceased cat in the home.
The Brant County SPCA were called to the scene and the animals were taken and placed in their care.
A 45-year-old man and 18-year-old woman were arrested and charged with causing unnecessary suffering to animals and causing damage or injury to animals.
Police say the investigation is ongoing and officers are working with the SPCA, City of Brantford Property Standards Department and the Brant County Health Unit.
