Tsunami warning causes New Zealanders to flee inland

It’s been a frightening weekend for thousands of New Zealanders living on the east coast of the country’s north island.  On Friday night, a third offshore earthquake in eight hours triggered tsunami sirens and warnings.  Workers, students and residents were assisted by civil defense officials as authorities said tsunami waves could reach three metres above tide levels.  Fortunately, there were no reports of damage or casualties from the quakes.
