The verdict is in in the trial of the surviving Boston Marathon bomber, and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev has been found guilty on all counts. It didn’t take the jury long to reach that verdict, and the next phase of this trail will decide whether to sentence Tsarnaev to death.
It’s taken nearly two years to get to this day. The bombing took place on April 15th, 20-13. There were four victims in total. 29 year-old Krystle Campbell, 8 year old Martin Richard, 23 year-old exhange student Lingzi Lu, and 26 year-old police officer Sean Collier.
The jury found Dzhokhar Tsarnaev guilty on every count he faced in the marathon bombing attack. The 21-year-old showed little emotion in court today, staring straight ahead as the verdict was read.
Outside court, one of the survivors, Karen Brassard, commented on the guilty verdict. She, along with her husband, daughter, and family friend were all badly injured while attending the marathon. Brassard says the verdict brings no closure, because the trauma will forever be a part of her life. She says she’s grateful for the jurors, and concerned for them after the difficult experience they had to endure.”We’re obviously grateful for the outcome today. It’s not a happy occasion, but it’s something we can put one more step behind us.”
The jury has been released, for now. They will return for the penalty phase of the trial which is expected to begin next week.
