TRW workers walk out
350 Employees at TRW in St Catharines are walking the picket line at this hour.
They walked off the job at midnight last night over what they say are frustrations over the progress of negotiations.
The union says the company is asking for concessions on pensions and holiday time. They say they gave deep concessions in their last contract, amounting to $12,000 to $15,000 a worker. They gave up $2.50 an hour and their cost of living provision. They currently make between $14 and $24 an hour.
TRW strike captain Dave Gough: “we’re out today because we took huge concessions on our last contract three years ago. Now we’re looking for a fair contract and so far we haven’t got one.”
“I think we’ve done our part. We’re looking for a fair contract now, and that’s all we’re asking for.”
Negotiations are ongoing at a St Catharines hotel.
