Trump to offer automakers some relief on 25 per cent tariffs

President Donald Trump will sign an executive order today to relax some of his 25 per cent tariffs on autos and auto parts.
It’s a significant reversal from his initial executive order on the industry as the import taxes threatened to hurt domestic manufacturers.
Automakers and industry experts have indicated that the tariffs could raise prices, reduce sales and make U.S. production less competitive worldwide.
The White House has not yet provided provide details of the order. However, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent says the goal is to enable automakers to create more domestic manufacturing jobs.
The moves means that car companies paying tariffs will not be charged other levies, such as those on aluminum and steel, and that reimbursements would be given for such tariffs that were already paid.
Trump is traveling to auto-capital Michigan today to commemorate his first 100 days in office.
