Prime Minister Justin Trudeau signed the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) with the European Union.

After seven years of negotiations, CETA will remove more than 99 per cent of tariffs and boost trade with Canada by more than $13 billion per year.

However, protests were led just outside of the European Council in Brussels where the deal was signed.

Demonstrators of CETA oppose the deal because of the long-term connection to the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Treaty (TTIP) and the power the treaties will allegedly give global corporations.

Protesters, dressed in white boiler suits, were detained after many jumped police barricades and threw red paint. Approximately 15 people were arrested but police were not able to put an end to the protest.
