Truckers protest in Milton

A group of truck drivers has been protesting throughout the night at a weight scale stop along highway 401 in Milton.

The drivers say they’re continuously spending money to upgrade their trucks to what they believed to be an “infraction proof” level, but in spite of that they say, ministry inspectors are still ticketing them over axel weights.

The ministry has cracked down on the industry after a number of tragedy’s on Ontario roads from unsafe trucks with increased inspections.

Regarding the axle weight issue, staff have met with representatives for the drivers and have scheduled an additional meeting for Friday to get a clear understanding of their concerns and requests.
