A 54 year old man is dead after the tow truck he was driving collided with a GO train this morning in Mississauga. It happened just after 6:30 am on Ninth Line north of Derry Rd.

The driver, Randy Muzzi of Mississauga, was pronounced dead at the scene. He had been working for Atlantic Showcase Auto Collision for 30 years, and was responding to another crash north of the tracks when his truck was hit.

Police say the truck was dragged for about half a kilometre, but none of the 172 passengers on board the train was injured.

Service has been suspended on GO Transit’s Milton line. Some of the passengers requested to return to Milton after the tragic events this morning, and others were taken to Union Station.

The fire department assisted GO Transit with the removal of the tow truck from the tracks. The coroner was also on the scene.

Peel Police are still trying to piece together how the collision happened, and their major collision bureau will be on scene investigating all afternoon.

Officials are not sure the line will re-open in time for rush hour tonight.

CHCH’s Kate Carnegie will have more on this story tonight on the Evening News at 6.
