Tremaine Market in Milton offers free groceries for those in need

Tremaine Market in Milton offers free food for people in need. All the food has been donated that otherwise would have gone to waste.
Tremaine Market is like a mini grocery store, you can grab fresh fruits and vegetables, canned goods, meats, and even fresh bread. Everything is free, just like a food bank.
“The amazing part is this is good rescued food from the supply chain, so we are talking grocery stores, retailers, wholesalers, farmers, and direct from the greenhouses all this food was going to go to waste, just because it was surplus,” Food for Life executive director, Graham Hill said.
The food is still good enough to eat, but just not perfect enough for retail. Instead of going to waste, it’s feeding families in Milton. The Tremaine Market is a program by a local charity called Food for Life. This is the second location in Halton. The first one opened in Burlington in the spring.
Food for Life currently serves around 300 families, but with the opening of this market, they expect to serve around 500 families.
Tremaine Market officially opens its doors Wednesday and families can shop there once a week. For more information, check out Food for Life.
