Trapped trucker needed oxygen injections

(Video updated) The driver of that tractor trailer that toppled over a ramp on the QEW in Burlington is still in hospital.

The driver doesn’t want his name released but CHCH News spoke to Harnek Mann, the owner of Simrut Trucking who was visiting him at Hamilton General this morning. Mann says the driver is in his early 30’s, lives in Brampton with his wife who is pregnant. He is banged up and in pain but is going to be fine.

The driver had been trapped inside the cab of the truck for two hours. He was taken to the General by air ambulance. The truck overturned on the ramp leading from the eastbound 403 to the Niagara-bound QEW. The trailer was hanging over the guardrail.

Mann: “He said it was very painful and he was kind of all upside down and stuck in there.”

“His stomach was pushed in with the steering wheel so while he was in there he couldn’t breathe so they were giving him oxygen injections.”

Most of the truck’s load of engine blocks spilled onto the westbound lanes of the 407. Mann owner says his driver noticed that the load wasn’t evenly distributed and was mostly in the centre of the truck. He says it appears to have been loaded incorrectly.
