Trail dangers

Hamilton Police are stepping up enforcement along the city’s trail system after a series of threatening incidents this summer.

The latest involved a 60 year old woman who was attacked and robbed of her purse while on a trail behind Hillcrest Elementary.

On the trail near Melvin Avenue in East Hamilton, a 60 year old woman was walking home Wednesday afternoon when she stopped to let two teenage boys cycle past her.

While riding by the first cyclist grabbed her purse strap, which was around her body.
After a brief struggle, the woman fell over, and the thieves made away with her purse.

One of the suspects is described as a white and in his mid to late teens with medium blonde hair. He was wearing a baggy white t-shirt.

The other, also white, and in his early teens. He has dark hair and was wearing darker clothing.

Police Sgt. Brad Adams explains, “To crack down on the activities we’re taking a proactive approach putting bike officers out daily, and we’re putting out our mounted patrol unit.”

Already this summer Hamilton Police have arrested one man for flashing women but they’re currently looking into three different complaints of a man flashing his genitals at women along the city’s trails system.

Though police will be more visible on the trails, they still suggest being aware of your surroundings, let people know you’re on the trails, and always carry a cell phone.

The flasher is described as a white man in his 20’s, around 5 foot 6 with red or light colored hair, riding a red bicycle.
