Traffic nightmares on the QEW in Niagara this weekend

If you’re driving on the QEW between Jordan and St. Catharines this weekend, you might want to consider taking another route. The highway will be closed in both directions at Seventh Street, starting at 10 Saturday night so crews can take down the overpass.
As Lauran Sabourin reports, the QEW is set to re-open at 10 Sunday morning.
By 10pm Saturday night, the entire highway at Seventh Street will be shut down in both directions. Toronto bound traffic will get off and on the highway at the Seventh Street ramps. Niagara bound cars will be diverted off at Seventh street onto the South Service Road and will travel along the South Service Road and enter at the Martindale ramp to continue Niagara bound.
More than 89 thousand vehicles travel this stretch every day.
The bridge will be knocked down in 12 hours. Rebuilding it will take more than 12 months. People in the area around Seventh Street will be taking detours for quite a while The new bridge won’t be built until the winter of 2017.
