Crews were on scene shortly after 3 this afternoon at a watermain break on Aberdeen near Locke Street in Hamilton. Crews cut into and ripped up the road at Kent and Aberdeen to assess the damage to the six inch watermain.
They pumped the underground water downslope to the north, down the street.
Meanwhile, area drivers dealt with a maze of traffic in the southwest Hamilton neighbourhood composed of mostly one way streets. Queen Street was backed up as drivers waited longer than normal to get up the hill.
The neighbourhood is no stranger to watermain breaks. Back in January of this year, a pipe burst on Locke Street closing several businesses and cafes for the afternoon.
Earlier still, in September of 2014, a main burst on Stanley Avenue.
The infrastructure in much of the area is 80-years old.
