Town of Oakville ratifies collective agreement with outside workers

The Town of Oakville has voted unanimously to ratify the collective agreement with the union representing outside workers.
CUPE Local 136, representing more than 285 outside workers and facility operators in Oakville, previously ratified the agreement on Saturday.
The new four-year agreement sees a 12.75 per cent wage increase over a four-year term, as well as a new healthcare spending account benefit starting in 2026.

Oakville outside workers had been on strike since Nov. 2 after raising concerns over higher wages and better benefits.
“The deal approved by Council considers the well-being of our employees, supports attraction and retention, respects taxpayers and ensures our ability to provide reliable, high-quality service to our community,” Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Oakville, Jane Clohecy said.
“I look forward to continuing our valuable work and providing the excellent programs and services our community has come to expect from the Town of Oakville.”

Other additions to the agreement include a $750 lump sum payment in 2023, a new compassionate care leave salary top-up benefit, and increases to meal allowance, tool allowance, shift premiums, and medical note reimbursements.
There were also significant enhancements to vacation entitlement including vacation service credit for new hires and existing employees, and the addition of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation to the list of statutory holidays.
Oakville’s inside workers have also recently ratified a new collective agreement, including overall wage increases worth 12.75 per cent over four years, as well as a $750 signing bonus payable in 2023.
