Tour de France organizers drop legal action against careless fan

Tour de France organizers say they have dropped their legal action against a spectator who caused a massive crash on the first stage.
Organizers made the decision in a bid to defuse the situation after the careless spectator was placed in custody, race spokesperson Fabrice Tiano said on Thursday.
The 30-year-old woman is currently in custody after turning herself in on Wednesday, accompanied by her spouse.
According to police, the woman was trying to send an affectionate message on TV to her grandparents with the cardboard sign.
She was holding a large cardboard sign while leaning into the path of oncoming riders.
She appeared to be looking in the other direction, apparently at a camera, and not at the approaching peloton.
No charges have been filed, and Tour de France organizers have also withdrawn their threats to sue the woman.
