Toronto police to charge Peter Nygard with sexual assaults, forcible confinement

Toronto police have issued a warrant for the arrest of former Canadian fashion leader Peter Nygard in connection with multiple allegations of sexual assaults.
The 80-year-old is wanted for three counts of forcible confinement and six counts of sexual assault.
Police say the charges relate to a number of alleged incidents that occurred between 1987 and 2006.
The charges were announced while Nygard was in a Winnipeg court for an extradition hearing in connection with sex trafficking charges.
Early Friday, he consented to be extradited to the United States, where he is also facing charges in New York for sexual assaults.
Nygard is accused of using his influence in the fashion industry to lure women and girls with the promise of modelling and other financial opportunities.
He has denied all allegations.
Nygard founded his fashion company in Winnipeg in 1967.
He stepped down as chairman after the FBI and police raided his offices in New York City in 2020.
The company has since filed for bankruptcy.
